Bull.Miletic Unfinished: Scars of the Past / Face of the Future,at Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade

16/04/2008 ::

Opening: Friday, 11 April 2008 at 7 PM

At their first solo show in Serbia, artistic couple Bull.Miletic presents the project Unfinished: Scares of the Past / Face of the Future conceptualized and produced for the context of city of Belgrade.

The field of interest of the artists could be exemplified with the desire to visualize an unconscious optical and acoustical field of perception. Of their particular concern thus is the relationship between physical and mental space and their motive is to examine their immediate surroundings (architecture, objects, landscape, urbanity) as containers of emotions, memories, and political decisions. Through the form of video installation the artists observe a potential trajectory for the visualization of time as space, and as a constellation where past and present coexist as interchangeable variables.

In the artistic practice of Bull.Miletic this kind of strategy is predominantly implemented on the analysis of cities and urbanity, and the historical and political situations in the chosen cities inform their decision about what and how to film. They are developing a special filming mechanism to achieve a certain “constructed objectivity” by being able to film without looking through the lens.

The title of the project: Unfinished: Scars of the Past / Face of the Future refers directly to the transitory presence in the physical residue of Belgrade’s monumental architecture as well as improvised urban structure. The method of filming allows the very point of view i.e. the position of the camera to be connected visually with all its consecutive viewpoints in a vertical 360- degree panorama. Each sequence is connected in a seamless transition to the next, incorporating not only the foundation on which one stands but its entire vertical plane. This unveiling of visual clues in the convergence of the seamless continuation and repetition makes up the never ending pattern of the video loop. The connectivity draws the borders of every particular space, confirming its existing spatial and visual relationships, as it has been perceived in ones unconscious through navigation and mental mapping.

The exhibition will be opened till 12 May 2008
