Nobel days in Oslo

The Nobel days, held to honour the winners of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, are taking place in Oslo from 9 to 11 December. The highlights include the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which will feature well-known artists from both Norway and abroad, an exhibition at the Nobel Peace Center, and the Peace Prize Award Ceremony.

The presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize to Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Bank will take place in Oslo City Hall on Sunday 10 December. Mr Yunus and the Grameen Bank have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to create economic and social development from below. They use the increasingly important tool of microcredit in the fight against poverty.

Artists from all over the world will gather at Oslo Spektrum on Monday 11 December to honour this year’s Peace Prize winners. The Peace Prize Concert, which will be broadcast on TV, will be hosted by the actresses Sharon Stone and Anjelica Huston.

The star-packed event will feature performances by Lionel Richie, Rihanna, John Legend, Yusuf, Simply Red, Wynonna, Renée Fleming, Morten Abel, Paulina Rubio, Hakim, Monica Yunus and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

“A fistful of dollars”, a portrait exhibition of this year’s Peace Prize winners, will open at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo on Monday 11 December. The exhibition shows the public a man and an institution that give the poor hope and an opportunity to create a dignified life for themselves. It will run until the summer of 2007.
