Travel and medical insurance is one of the requirements for issuance of visa for the Schengen area.
Travel medical insurance must cover any expenses that may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment. The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Schengen Member States and cover the entire period of the applicant's stay. The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30,000. Claims against the insurance company shall be recoverable in a Schengen Member State, Switzerland, and/or Liechtenstein.
Insurance may be provided either from a local or international insurance company and must be presented to the Embassy.
